The John Spoor Broome Library provides a digital journal platform, Open Journal Systems (OJS), to the University’s Academic community. The journal platform provides felxibity in workflow allowing for users to post approved content immediately or go through a traditional editoral process of submissions, review, proofing, and publishing.

The Broome Library will provide the initial journal set-up, onboard training, hosting media, technical support, and answer questions. Journal owners are responsible for journal management which includes: the editorial process, content publishing, user management, customizations, and policies and guidelines.

Things To Think About

Here are a few things to consider or keep in mind when you meet with the Library to start a journal

  • All journals on the Library platform are open access.
  • Would you like to customize the style of your journal, familiarity with html and css is needed.
  • What kind of workflow do you envision?
    • will you take submissions online
    • will your articles be peer reviewed
    • do you have content that is ready to publish
  • Your workflow may require staffing, such as reviewers, editors, a style designer
  • Do you have exisiting content?
  • Managing a journal can be a lot of work, keep this in mind when setting deadlines

Request a Journal

To request a journal contact the Library and we can setup a time to meet. We will talk about journal expectations, answer questions, and provide some recommendations. If possible we can setup an training session for the same day or some other time.

Be prepared to have the below ready for the meeting:

  • Journal Name
  • Journal Abbreaviation, a short identiyfing word or acronym
  • Primary Contact Email
  • Names and emails of editorial team
  • A description of the journal
  • An ISSN/EISSN if available
  • DOI prefix if available

We will setup you journal and provide you and your team access to the journal.
