Faculty Reading Circles
Algorithms of Oppression: How Search Engines Reinforce Racism
Faculty have the opportunity to come together in a reading circle with their colleagues to discuss the 2020-2021 Campus Reading Celebration book, Algorithms of Oppression: How Search Engines Reinforce Racism. Broome Library is thrilled to announce that we have Noble’s work available as an e-book, accessible free of charge to those with CI credentials. Crucial to understanding the information architecture in which the world operates and the fallibility of technology designed by humans, this book is especially important as we become more conscious of how the design of our world reflects structural racism. Faculty will consider how they might integrate the book and awareness of search engine bias and data discrimination into your Spring 2021 syllabi.
There will be two reading circles once a month for three months:
- Tuesdays 3:00-4:00pm
- on 9/22, 10/27, and 11/17
- Wednesdays 6:00-7:00pm
- on 9/23, 10/28, and 11/18
